About Scot Ackerman

Scot Ackerman, MD, Board Certified in Radiation Oncology, is the Medical Director of Ackerman Cancer Center. After completing his training at Columbia University in New York City, he came to Jacksonville and has been in private practice for more than 35 years, serving as an integral force in Florida's fight against cancer. He held the position of Chief of Radiation Oncology at St. Vincent's Medical Center prior to opening Ackerman Cancer Center, formerly First Coast Oncology, in 1997. During his tenure at St. Vincent's Healthcare, he immersed himself in patient advocacy and community awareness. He continues to support these ideals and is a strong believer in individualized patient care. Currently, Dr. Ackerman oversees the Ackerman Cancer Foundation and is a board member of WeCare Jacksonville. He was also appointed to the Florida Board of Medicine by Governor Ron Desantis.

Doctors designated as Centers of Excellence (“COE”) have achieved a higher level of training with Barrigel and demonstrated a commitment to exemplary care for patients undergoing prostate cancer radiation therapy. Requirements to achieve the COE designation are as follows: Complete advanced technique training. Maintain clinical proficiency by performing a minimum of 75 Barrigel procedures per year. Participate in quarterly educational content to maintain up to date on best practices.
